What's on in Val Thorens
A roundup of what's on between now & the end of the season
March means spring skiing and après in the sunshine which brings with it lots of festivals so that you can take advantage of the long, brighter days and enjoy a beer or two on the terrace.
From full on festivals to derby races and smaller family events, there's something for everyone to enjoy as we head towards the end of the season.
This week in Les Menuires the Frozen festival has been taking place all week. It's an electro music festival which has made its' way around several venues in resort including Le Challenge, Red Dragon, New Pop, Le Skilt, La Trattoria, Le Kube, Le Plan B and Leeberty with a varied programme of events. Taking place any time between midday and 04:00 depending on your stamina.
Festival Tho
From Tuesday 21st until Thursday 23rd March, the 'Festival Tho' will be taking place in the heart of Val Thorens. Head to Bar 360 where the festival is taking place to catch various artists including hugel, lumberjack, Ofenbach and Tony Romera to name a few.
The festival starts from midday until just after the slopes close at 18:00. Bar 360 is also accessible for non-skiers too and the restaurant has loads on offer so a fab venue to while away the afternoon.
European Gay ski week
Les Menuires are very proud this year to be the hosts for European gay ski week taking place from 18th to 25th March. There are apres events in resort all week from 16:00 to 18:00 along with various individual events at the clubs later on.
They have also partnered with several restaurants for discounts and there are hosted ski groups every day. The welcome party commences with a cabaret at Le Skilt and later moving on to Leeberty where the theme is to dress in the style of the country you come from. There is also the 'snowball' where you must dress in white, a wig party, a splash pool party at the aqau spa from 21:00 until 00.30.
Bon Appetit Derby
On Saturday 25th March, Les Menuires will be hosting the 'Bon Appetit' derby in the La Masse area of the resort. There will be slalom races to enter (participants from 16yrs and upwards), live music and entertainment starting as early as 07:00!
If you are not familiar with the name, the 'Bon Appetit' team consists of local skiers Fabien Maierhofer, Victor Galuchot and Nicolas Favre sponsored by Salomon who created the website 'Bon Appetit' several years ago. They now host a 'derby' with group competitions and races on La Masse and a live concert at Ninkasi in the evening. It's well worth heading along.
3 Vallees Enduro
Anyone in resort on 2nd April who is up for a challenge then you really should give the 'Les 3 Vallees enduro' a go. Running into it's 15th year the event is for teams of three entering into different categories including freeride, geant, freestyle, 'triplette des Belleville' and 'family shuss'.
All in all it's a fun, competitive (if you want) event which is a good laugh and challenge. You must enter in advance though to make sure your team gets a place, entry open to all age groups.
Apotheose Days
Heading towards the end of April, Val Thorens has the end of the winter season firmly in its' sight which means, one big party! From 22nd April until 1st May they will be hosting 'Apotheose Days' which is a jam packed itinerary of events with loads of things for kids including face painting,BBQ's, games and even pony rides.
Dutch week
Then finally, and taking place during the same week, Val Thorens, gets a nice brush of orange with Dutch week descending in resort for the 27th year! There are après events all week from 22nd to 29th April, ski tests and lots more with the big bang on 27th April with celebration of the Dutch national day.
